Amazon.com Product Description This is a refurbished GPS. Refurbished generally means that the unit has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the navigator back to like new conditions.
Garmin's nüvi 260W combines the thinprofile and attractive price point of other nüvi 200-series GPS with directions in real street names and a wide screen that lets you see more of what's around you as you drive. Garmin's line on the device is that, "the nüvi 260W gives consumers the most sought-after navigation features, while eliminating many of the premium add-ons. The result is a PND that simply gets you from point A to point B – reliably, efficiently, and with style." As with all nüvis, you get Garmin reliability, the fast satellite lock of a high-sensitivity integrated receiver, a slim, pocket-sized navigator with a gorgeous display, detailed NAVTEQ maps that lets you search by name for more than 6 million points of interest like stores, restaurants or hospitals, and an easy, intuitive interface. Which nüvi is Best for You?: Click here to see a quick, simple comparison of features for all Garmin nuvi GPS navigators. Wider screen lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen | The nüvi 260W comes preloaded with maps for U.S., Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, and features an ultra-slim design. | Text-To-Speech The text-to-speech feature of the nüvi 260W means that device automatically calls out street names (saying "turn right on Main Street" instead of "turn right in 200 feet."). This feature lets drivers keep their eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. See More of What's Around The 4.3-inch backlit widescreen touchscreen on the nüvi 260W gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push. Smart, Powerful Design The nüvi 260W is built with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for extreme accuracy, as well as an SD card slot for storing your media and additional navigation tools, and a USB interface for loading data. All this is wrapped up in a package that measures 4.8 x 2.9 x 0.8 inches (W x H x D) and weighs just 6.6 ounces. The nüvi display is touchscreen-enabled, making it a cinch to control the device with your fingertips. A rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to five hours of battery life depending on use. Garmin Lock Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location First Rate Map Data The nüvi 260W comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps, including a hefty POI database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping.
In addition, the nüvi 260W accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs

Love my Garmin! April 19, 2009 W. Russ 46 out of 46 found this review helpful
My "Factory Refurbished" 260w arrived looking brand new in the factory box with all of the original accessories. After just a few minutes of reviewing the manual, I was up and running. A few weeks later, I took the unit on a business trip to Miami. I'd pre-programmed the addresses of my company offices and it took me right there with no problems. I especially liked the ease of which I could scan for restaurants closest to my current location!
The unit is VERY easy to use, very clear, and I couldn't be more pleased.
Great GPS January 15, 2009 Ronald L. Wiley (Ravenna, Ohio) 24 out of 25 found this review helpful
If you are looking for an easy to use GPS with street names spoken this is the one for you. The Garmin 260W worked perfectly right out of the box. The one I purchased was refurbished from Digitech Deals, but it looked like brand new. It came packaged in a Garmin box with power cord and mounting bracket. It also had a 12 month warranty from Garmin and user guide. Make sure you register it at the Garmin website so you can get the latest software update and check for the latest maps ( mine had the latest maps already loaded ). You can't go wrong with this one or Digitech Deals.
I believe I made a good choice May 13, 2009 J. Silva (FL, USA) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I have been looking for a couple of months and like you right now, I had been reading a lot of reviews for GPS systems. All shapes, sizes, brands and of course prices. The only other GPS I had used before was a Navigon 2100 which I had gifted my wife for Christmas. The Navigon was my only comparable and this GPS I feel was a much better choice. To start, the GPS lock is faster, the Navigon would take sometimes around 45 secs to 1 minute to lock, this Garmin always locks in 15-20 secs. The screen is of course much bigger and it makes it easier to see the directions. The main advantages over the Navigon though would have to be the Text to Speech where it actually speaks the street names so instead of saying "Turn Right in 20 Feet" it says "In 20 feet turn right on Park Road" and The Points of Interest. This unit has way more POIs than the Navigon. I have always found everything I'm looking for and besides that, it shows the phone number of the store, restaurant, etc. so you can call if needed.
I went to the Garmin update site and my GPS already came with the 2009 US Map whihc I believe is the latest.
I just did not give it 5 stars because when it gets out of the roads into shopping roads or plaza roads it makes mistakes on how to get you to the exact place you're looking for. When you're that close I normally don't need anymore help. Anyway it lost 1 star for that.
more bang for your buck May 4, 2009 happy camper (Northridge, CA United States) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I had an old baseball size Garmin that took forever to aquire satillites etc. I bought this Garmin and took it on a trip to San Francisco. I relied totally on the Garmin nothing more. Although you still need to use your brain,(I got off the freeway and knew I shouldn't have) it worked and got me to the destination on time and as scheduled. I won't leave home without it. You don't have to take your eyes off the road because it speaks the street names and gives you plenty of warning. The only con is the louder you turn up the volume, the less clear the words come out. Understandable, but not as clear as it could be.
Great GPS for the price range. April 16, 2009 Todd D. Tharp (Fremont, CA United States) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
We bought this GPS system because we make a lot of trips to San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma, and the rest of the Bay Area. It has made it nice for when we just want to get away and not worry about how to get back to the interstate. My wife is not that good with maps or directions, so with it, she is able to go to the city and with the voice speaking out the names of the street, it allows her to get where she needs to be easily.
